Achievement: Winner of Start-Up Weekend UBC Vancouver

About

Pony Pony Dog was created during the start-up weekend at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver Canada. From idea to functioning prototype, we only had 30 hours.

The Problem

One of the biggest problems facing young families is the ability to stay in touch. It is extremely common for parents with young children to have to travel to other countries or states for business, therefore staying in contact with their children can be hard. Although Skype and video chat technologies exist, it is impossible to replace the quality time spent playing games and have fun together.

The Game

First game demo which was created in less then 30 hours, from design to implementation. Although it was nerve racking, we were able to convey across the ideas of fun and shared joy between the two players.

Design

Creating the story boards and designing user interfaces.

Using simple paper cut outs, we came up with the storyline of Pony Pony Dog, why they existed.

I wanted to incorporate traditional gameplay such as puzzles games with modern iPad games.

Game Story

The final design which was demoed. The game was based around the journey of two best friends, the pony and the dog, who are on their way to grandma's house. However on the way, they had to overcome many obstacles. It would have multiple levels and would be a combination of cooperative puzzle games and educational.

Although there are existing games in this space, we believe that Pony Pony Dog is focused on an area that is current untouched.
